Abstract

"Zakat" is not only a fundamental pillar of Islam, it also provides
with marvelous monetary policy to bridge the gap between haves
and have nots. Actually Zakat contributes greatly in reducing
poverty, eradicating the unemployment and discouraging high
rates of inflation. This alm in the name of zakat is indisputable
right of needy muslims in the surplus wealth of a rich muslim, The
eligibility criteria of paying and receiving Zakat is clearly defined
through Quran and Sunnah and different dictionaries, Early signs
of Zakat in semetic religions have also been explained, and
individual and social impacts of Zakat have been analysed. At the
end, some suggestions related to implication of rights have also
been presented so that poverty ridden muslims can get the fruit
of Zakat evenly.
