Abstract

Metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase denoting one kind of object or idea and is used in place of another to suggest likeness or analogy between them. It is a linguistic representation that results from the shift in the use of a word or phrase.

Metaphors which are employed in the Holy Quran particularly in Qiyamah verses are varied in types and are different in their functions. These metaphors are used in the Holy Quran as persuasive tool for all human being. They are used to persuade unbelievers to have faith in Almighty and Doomsday and, at the same time to strengthen the faith of believers.

As metaphor is the powerful tool of rhetoric, so the Quran has used metaphor very frequently to convey its message in Qiyamah verses, not through literal meaning, but a similar, figurative meaning. These metaphors put abstractive concepts in Qiyamah verses into concrete terms and draw the attention of readers.

In Qiyamah verses all categories of metaphors are incorporated in most effective and clearest way. This article elucidates different forms of metaphor which came in Qiyamah verses.
