Artistic Characteristics of the letters of the Allama Abdul Aziz Al-Maiman

Abstract

Allama Abdul Aziz Al-Maiman is regarded as one of the eminent scholars of the Indian subcontinent who rendered remarkable services to the Arabic heritage, particularly in the field of Arabic prose. He wrote a large number of letters in Arabic to his friends, associates, and students who were spread across the East and the West. These epistles are considered a valuable and refined part of the Arabic literary heritage of the Indian subcontinent.Most of these letters were addressed to the directors of libraries in order to obtain information about rare manuscripts and renowned books that still exist in manuscript form in various universities and libraries around the world. This article sheds light on the artistic and stylistic characteristics of Allama Abdul Aziz Al-Maiman’s epistles, examining his use of vocabulary and linguistic structures. It also explores the imagery, ideas, meanings, emotions, and intellectual themes reflected in his letters. Finally, the study discusses the diverse literary and rhetorical styles that he employed in his correspondence.
