"In Islamic viewpoint, the children are a precious divine gift bestowed to us. The parents are answerable to Almighty Allah (SWT) regarding their “Tarbiah” or upbringing. The safeguarding of progeny is one of five sublime objectives of Shariah. So parenting is a fragile responsibility. It is more than providing them with food, care and shelter. It is also a complete personality development program, a blend of spiritual, psychological, ethical and social upbringing. Being the first inspiration of their kids, parents are responsible to implant core assumptions of religion and its ethical and social norms in them. Illustration of the consequences of unhealthy tendencies and inappropriate actions from parents' side save the future life of their children as well as society. A great number of books on the topic of character building of Muslim children were written in the United Indian literary history. These books left an everlasting impact not only on the readers of that era but also on our temp (temporary?) contemporary readers.
Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali (1837–1914), (a celebrated poet, writer, critique and social reformer) was a strongest voice against / in the favour of producing civilised and educated Muslim individuals for awakening Muslim Ummah. The role of domestic domain was the fittest tool / fit to serve this mission according to him. Majalis un Nisa (مجالس النساء), a short novel was penned by Hali for religious upbringing of children. In this article, a brief analysis / review of this book will be presented to highlight the importance of rearing children in light of Islamic perspective and their consequences and impacts on society."
